Deciding to use an egg donor agency can be very difficult. We support your decision and encourage you to take your time so that you feel comfortable and educated when making this very personal choice.

Because finding a donor is a very personal experience we work hard to find your perfect match. We believe in assisting our future parents through every step of the process and encourage you to reach out to one of our experienced case managers or coordinators who understand just what you are going through.

Below are a few frequently asked questions, concerns, and answers many of our parents have asked throughout the years.

The first step is to create your free, confidential account to access our online database of egg donors. Once you have registered online, one of our experienced match coordinators will reach out to you, to work one-on-one with you, in finding your perfect match.

Through our advanced search function, you can look for donors who have your same features. You have many search options available to you, such as: ethnicity, hair color, eye color, height, education level, etc. In addition to using our advanced search function, one of our highly experienced match coordinators can assist you in finding your ideal donor.

Our egg donor database provides you with in-depth information on each donor—and it’s free to create a recipient account! Our database of donors is always accessible from our navigational toolbar. Once you have registered for the egg donor database, a confirmation email will be sent to you. One of our match coordinators will also reach out to you in person. At any time you can log back in with your email address and password you created to begin your search! You will have full access to donor profiles that include pictures, ancestry, GPA, occupation, personality profiles, a full search tool—including favorites—and so much more!

In addition to working one-on-one with you to find your perfect egg donor, our egg donor database allows you to set daily or weekly email notifications when new donors are approved.

We also have a search filter on our database that allows you to only view donors whose profiles have been added within the past 30 days. We encourage you check in with us periodically as the more we get to know you, the more likely we are to recognize a suitable donor for you. As we have some of the best relationships with other reputable third-party agencies around the country, we will work together to find your perfect donor.

We assist intended parents from all over the United States, and in some cases, the world. With video chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, and mobile devices we are able to assist you remotely no matter where you reside! If you live in the Los Angeles area or plan to visit, we welcome you to come by our offices as we love to meet all our intended parents in person.

Our egg donors all provide extensive information that includes their personal and family medical history, education, and employment background, interests, skills, and character traits. Once you have created an account, you will be able to view all this information as well as all their uploaded pictures.

We add a handful of new donors to our database each week. While we receive dozens of applications from potential donors daily, we do not approve their profiles for viewing until their application is thoroughly completed, and we’ve collected their medical release form and copy of their driver’s license. The amount of time it takes to receive all the information varies from donor to donor, but it generally takes a few weeks from the time the donor begins to fill out the application until the time her profile makes it to our database. If you are only interested in viewing profiles of new donors, please take advantage of the “Profiles submitted within the last 30 days” option found on the search page. In addition to working one-on-one with you to find your perfect egg donor, our egg donor database allows you to set daily or weekly email notifications when new donors are approved.

Most of our intended parents wish to remain anonymous and all the cycles begin with full anonymity on the part of the recipient. However, it is your choice if you would like to have contact with the donor and what level of contact you are comfortable with. We recommend you make this decision prior to being matched so we can make sure your donor is amenable; we find that most donors are. We can arrange a confidential video conference call after your donor is confirmed for your cycle. We also encourage the use of letters to introduce yourself to the donor and thank her for sharing her gift with you. We respect the personal nature of the choice to use a donor and will only share the information you permit.

Regardless of where your donor is located, she will still be screened according to your doctor’s protocol. Most of her testing will be completed local to her at a facility that is designated by your clinic. The results will then be forwarded to your doctor. In addition, your donor will be screened in person by your doctor once prior to the retrieval. If possible, we get her there and back the same day; at most, an overnight stay might be required. We send the details of the appointment to a travel agency that will make the arrangements on your behalf. The second time your donor sees your doctor will be for the retrieval, itself. This time, she will stay near your cycling facility for four to seven days, and she will also have a companion with her to tend to her following the retrieval. You will be responsible for all travel expenses including flights, hotel, per diem, and ground transportation for your donor and her companion. Most of our cases do involve travel, so it is not out of the ordinary if you require the same.

In the case of any third party reproduction, an egg donor contract or service agreement is a necessary part of the legal process. These written agreements between the intended parents and the donors and/or surrogate state and explain the rights and obligations of each party throughout the processes of donation, pregnancy, and the child’s life.

The Egg Donation Agreement—separate from our egg donor agency contract—are customized to the preferences of both parties and states the donor’s and the intended parents’ rights and legal responsibilities. It should make clear that the donor is rescinding all legal rights to make decisions about the donated gametes, ensuing embryos that might be created, and any children that might result from the use of donated gametes.

Additionally, the agreement might include such specifications as future contact, travel expenses, per diem rates, timelines for retrieval, privacy considerations, or any number of other provisions.

You will want to have a seasoned fertility lawyer put the contract in place. They have the knowledge of local laws pertaining to third party reproduction.

For additional reading on understanding egg donation contracts, you can read our blog about it HERE.

If you need to change your donor selection for any reason, we will help your client find an appropriate replacement donor at no additional charge. Should you not find a replacement donor, we will refund 75% of the agency fee and 100% of the egg donor compensation fee.

They find us! Our donors find our agency through their own research on the internet while others are referred to us by their friends. Donors will often find us through their previous donation experience with IVF clinics that we have a close relationship with. We pride ourselves in being the pioneer for egg donation agencies and as one of most highly respected and experienced.

Our donors are located all over the United States, and we meet with them virtually. We conduct a personal face-to-face interview before approving them for our database. Through frequent email, video conferencing, and phone contact with donors, we are able to get a good sense of their personalities and responsiveness.

Egg Donation, Inc. has a very extensive approval process. Donors must complete a lengthy questionnaire, which spans her health history, education and employment, traits, and previous cycle details if applicable. The medical and genetic section covers not only her own health history but also that of her family. Many of the questions found in this section are very similar to the ones that will be asked of her at your IVF clinic. Donors who are found to have a personal or family history of heart disease, cancer, mental health issues, diabetes, and alcoholism will not be approved. We also screen donors according to the BMI (Body Mass Index), and we do not accept those who are not within the appropriate height/weight limits. Donors who smoke or are on certain prescription medications that could affect the cycle are immediately eliminated. We also do not approve donors who have gotten a tattoo within the past year or who have already cycled six times. Once we approve her application, we collect a copy of her driver’s license to verify her identity as the final step before adding her profile to our active database. We adhere to all recommendations made by the ASRM, CDC, and FDA agencies.

Before a donor’s application is approved and they are added as active to our database, every donor is required to provide proof of personal identity by sending us a scanned copy of their driver’s license or passport. We will also ask the donor for her GPA or SAT/ACT transcripts. For previous donors, we make every effort to retrieve her previous medical records from the cycling facility.

If you choose a donor who has cycled before, she will most likely have been completely medically and psychologically evaluated. Those records will be forwarded to your cycling physician. In the event your donor will be entering her first cycle, you will have the peace of mind knowing that she will be screened according to your doctor’s specific protocol.

When you select your donor, we explain to her what is expected of her in terms of time investment and medical obligations. She signs a contract with Egg Donation, Inc. confirming her commitment to the cycle and specifying her compensation. In addition, once she is medically cleared to proceed with the retrieval, a legal contract is signed by you and your donor stating both parties’ responsibilities and declaring all eggs retrieved are the property of the Intended Parents in the specified treatment cycle. Donor’s who prove to be unresponsive or irresponsible are removed from our database.

There are a variety of factors that contribute to the cost of your cycle. For all costs relegated to Egg Donation, Inc., please see our Estimated Cost Sheet that one of our case managers or matching coordinators can send to you. It will detail our agency fees, the approximate costs for the donor, as well as explain the estimated costs to you. Any questions regarding costs related to the retrieval, itself, stimulation medications for the donor, and your own medical expenses, should be directed to your cycling facility.

Egg Donor compensation ranges from $7,500 for a first-time donor to over $30,000 for a repeat donor with a history of successful cycles. Although we adhere to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines, we are careful to make sure a donor’s compensation is fair for both the donor and the recipients.

Egg Donation, Inc. establishes a trust account on your behalf in order to disperse payments to the various service providers involved in your cycle. This prevents you from making multiple payments, and it ensures anonymity for you and the donor. The donor’s compensation is included in the trust fund amount.

The trust fund balance will be due once your donor is medically cleared, and we will notify you of this milestone. The donor’s compensation, however, will not be paid until we have confirmed with your medical facility that the retrieval has been completed. At that time, we will put her compensation check in the mail.

With the recent changes in benefits policies and new offerings, it is possible that your insurance may cover some of the costs for egg donation. We highly recommend that you discuss this with your insurance provider to learn more about what costs will be covered and what you will be responsible for.

There are also many loan companies that we recommend researching. You can find a comprehensive list for what you options are at: https://resolve.org/what-are-my-options/making-infertility-affordable/infertility-financing-programs/

In 2010, California bill 2426 was signed into law, specifying how funds for surrogacy and egg donation must be managed in the state. California Family Code Section 7961now requires that client funds for these types of assisted reproduction must be deposited into one of two specific accounts:

(1) An independent, bonded escrow depository maintained by a licensed, independent, bonded escrow company.

(2) A trust account maintained by an attorney.

The surrogacy or fertility treatment facility should inform clients about their two options and direct them to deposit funds there for retrieval during the fertility process.

Client-trust accounts held by attorneys are regulated by the California State Bar, to which each attorney is accountable. In addition, the California State Bar has created the Client Security Fund, which protects clients against financial losses from dishonest conduct. Law firms have no financial interest in holding accounts for clients; no interest earned off the account may be appropriated by an attorney.

We ask our clients to deposit all funds, prior to cycle commencement, directly into a California State Bar attorney-client trust account managed by Surrogacy & Fertility Escrow (SAFE).

You will want to have a seasoned fertility lawyer put the contract in place. They have the knowledge of local laws pertaining to third party reproduction and will customize the contract to the preferences of both parties. It is important that the contract makes clear that the donor is rescinding all legal rights to make decisions about the donated gametes, ensuing embryos that might be created, and any children that might result from the use of donated gametes.

Attorney fees can range from $500 to $2000 and will vary by state, by egg donor agency, and also by law firm. This fee is is not only to create your legal contracts but it also can include identifying the finalization procedures to be utilized, ensuring all parties obtain informed consent, requiring social disease testing, including HIV/AIDS, ensuring the surrogate/donor is medically examined and screened, discussing the current status of the law and the attendant risks, and preparing and sending a legal clearance letter to your fertility specialist.

Egg Donation, Inc. is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., PST. Any phone inquiries left over the weekend will be answered during normal business hours. We also have a 24-hour emergency phone number for all egg donors when they are in a current cycle.

Egg Donation, Inc. is the liaison between your egg donor, your medical facility, and any other entities needed to help complete your cycle. We work with donors, intended parents, and medical facilities from all over the country. You simply need to provide us your medical facility’s fax and phone number, along with the name of your Nurse Coordinator and email address. We then have the beginning foundation to start the coordination process.

Yes! We are proud of the large number of international recipients we’ve been able to help. We are able to have the same close working relationship and level of communication with our international future parents as we have with our domestic recipients. Unlike many agencies, there is no additional fee through Egg Donation, Inc. for not living in the United States.

When donors apply to our program, we inform them that travel is a very real possibility in order to get selected for this process. We let them know they would travel at least twice to the IVF clinic and the length of time they would need to be gone. Most donors have no problem accommodating the travel requirements. Sometimes, however, donors do have restrictions due to school, work, or family obligations that prevent them from being able to travel. We make note of any special circumstances, so we can pass this information along to you when you alert us to the donors you are considering.

We have had an increased number of recipients inquire about completing their cycles in foreign countries such as India. However, Egg Donation, Inc. does not encourage this, nor do we directly arrange the logistics for these cycles. The medical protocol, legal, insurance, and travel dynamics are different in an international cycle vs. a domestic one. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our donors. If our intended parents reside internationally and can not come to the United States, we offer a very competitive and robust frozen egg donor program that bridges this gap.

Egg Donation, Inc. does work with an affiliate fertility clinic to collect and freeze eggs. These eggs are preferentially used at the same clinic, however can be shipped to a clinic of your choice. If our intended parents reside internationally and can not come to the United States, we offer a very competitive and robust frozen egg donor program that bridges this gap.
